Addlestone Chess Club was started in 1981 by Rod Lovett as a section of the Addlestone Community Centre and was based in their building in Station Road, Addlestone. Rod was a former member of Chertsey Chess Club, and he was successfully able to build a club for the local community. In our very first season (1982-83), we won the Surrey Border League second division. As the years went by the club added many more titles until a clean sweep of the top three divisions ended in the demise of the top teams. With that the club followed shortly afterwards.
